Earth Trembles

I am Earth.
And Traveler,
I can feel you in the twilight

I can feel your steps coming to me
treading to the sound of my heart pounding
crossing mountains

I feel your hands
dark fingers exploring milky crevices
your open palms pressing on the cool and moist

soft face against face
climbing higher
your body strong against me
crossing mountains

I feel your thirsty mouth
drinking from me
and I give more to quench you

I feel your breath
hot, moving swiftly over restless seas
touching me like moonlight on waves
your breath
hungry and humming
heavy and hushed
stirring dust in hot deserts

fields sway like music when you exhale
trees bend low at your impatience
waters swell

the moon moves the tides in my hips
you open your arms and the sun rises in them

ebony shroud blankets white flesh
frost melts away from me
sweet dew, slippery lips on lips

Earth trembles
mountains crumble beneath your gaze
beneath your fingertips

Seas rush in to me
and leave in the sweet rhythm of our selves
your breath, still music,
heavy in the air

Gaia quakes
exposing secret places
dangerous and beautiful

Traveler, I still feel you.

  11. A very lovely poem, Miriam!

  12. Thank you all- truly. I'd like to share it with the world-just not my parents haha

  13. I see the absolute sense of Earth here. Human beings touch the Earth, it touches back. Beautiful imagery; thank you!

  14. oh i just LOVED reading this Miriam, thanks for sharing it with me, i promise i won't show my parents ;) lol

  15. Love it!
Like others, I found your blog through Nathan's contest. As I mentioned in my vote (I was the very first to vote for you, does that count for anything?) your paragraph really stuck with me after reading it the first time. I was not at all surprised to see that you were a finalist.

So congrats on being a finalist, and good luck!

I'll be following your blog, and would love to hear/see more about your book!!

  16. Megan-you are a doll! My book is mostly in my head - chapters and chapters of it - but some days words actually make their way down the long trail through my hand to the paper! But this is certainly encouraging! I am VERY excited about being a finalist! Thank you for you vote and kindness.

  17. This was phenomenal. Thanks for sharing it. Although, I fear that now a cool shower might be in order. Heh.

    Seriously, it was simply beautiful.

  18. Thanks lori-- is definitely a shower poem haha

  19. That was just beautiful. Congratulations on being a finalist in Nathan's contest. :) Hopefully, you'll get an agent out of the deal.

  20. Thanks SHaron-- an agent would be amazing -- but likely a few years too soon :-) Thanks for your vote of confidence!

  21. You never know. :) Having an agent would be wonderful. You could spend your time writing and let someone else figure out where to send your work.

  22. wow!!

    very touching..

    You rock...

    @rungss on Twitter

  23. Poetic/ wonderful/ i am awestruck!

The last few lines had me holding my breath...

  24. A beautiful piece. Your words are like a picture on paper. Thanks for sharing.

  25. Thank you Marcia, Serendipity- I love your feedback

  26. Music, Nature,
    Mother Earth's pure raw Energy
    fueled your Poem...but

    the Talent is all *you*...
I had chills at your multi-sensual imagery. Congratulations on your success, & I'd love to read more.

  27. Thank you so much for your kind feedback, Cheryl ~ It means a lot

  28. I love your metaphors and the Music you interweave throughout your Words...Our Sensuality is inextricably intertwined with the rhythm of NatureMother-I love how you've sung the Song.
Forgive me; I'm jet-lagged like never in my Life. I suddenly see...I've already commented here. Should I erase? I didn't understand the curious sense of deja vu. OR perhaps we needed to connect again.

  29. Incredible work. You're a good writer.

  30. nice one. Thanks!

  31. Outstanding. Erotic, beautiful, deeply soulful...loving, much that I can't touch on with words. :)

  32. If words could dance; its bcoz it's touched by you.
The world would dance, if its written by you.

  33. There is the mystery (is the Traveler the wind or humanity?) then I do like this poem's portrayal of Earth as both sensitive and sensual.

It makes me all the more compassionate about our effect on the planet. Beautifully done, thanks!

  34. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I am very happy you enjoyed the poem.
